Nadia and Family Nicole, Kevin, Kace and Nadia Hedjazi- Collins.

After three years at Cushing Academy (with our own Janine Kline and Rick Drucker), Nadia Hedjazi-Collins decided she had seen enough New England winters.  She headed west for college at Cal State San Bernardino, where she majored in business management.  It was a homecoming of sorts, as she had lived in CA before moving to Dhahran in 1973.  She married Kevin Collins the week after graduating.  The newlyweds moved to Fountain Hills, which is just outside of Scottsdale, AZ.

Nadia and Kevin welcomed daughter Nicole to the world on July 4th, 1988 – she’s Nadia’s little firecracker.  After two years as a stay-at-home Mom, Nadia wanted to do something entrepreneurial, so she opened a gymnastics center, which she ran from 1990–1995.

The lucky parents welcomed Kace to the family on May 3rd, 1995.  While the gymnastics center was fun, it required more time than Nadia had available, so she closed it and went to work for America West Airlines.  She worked in reservations for a while and one evening found herself talking to John Beard, our sixth-grade teacher.  After a few months on the phones she became a flight attendant.  Nadia is still flying with America West.  She flies only ten days a month, giving her plenty of free time with the family.

The Collins have definitely inherited the Aramco wanderlust.  In 1994, they spent two weeks in Malaysia, relaxing on the beach and going on long jungle treks through
Borneo.  In 2001, they spent a week in the Canton province of China, another week in Hong Kong and wrapped up the trip with a week in the Philippines, where Nadia has several aunts, uncles and cousins.  Next year they’re going to the southern Philippine Islands.  They’re also planning a trip to Damascus, where her father's family lives.

Nadia’s involved in a lot of other activities as well.  She writes:

We have a boat and go to the lake often.  We like to fish, hike, go camping (although my idea of camping now would be in a motor home) golf, ski, go to ball games and just hang out and entertain friends.  With all the great weather in Arizona, we do just about everything outdoors.

I volunteer at my kids' schools (and after-school programs) since I have so much time off.  I'm crazy about home improvement stores!! and am in the process of re-doing EVERY single room in our house.  One at a time of course.  I really enjoy the sense of accomplishment from doing it myself.

Nadia and family get together with her brother, Sharif (DH 78), and his family in Mesa, AZ a few times a year.  Kevin is a visual communication systems account manager at Hughes-Callahan.  He designs and integrates conference rooms and training centers.

          Great Works

War in a Time of Peace – by David Halberstam. Halberstam examines developments in the Balkans from 1990–2000 with a particular focus on US policy.  He spends a great deal of time covering the wars in Bosnia and Kosovo.  If you ever wanted to find out how foreign policy is really formulated, here’s your chance to get a close look.

Anthology (DVD)
– by The Beatles.  The definitive collection of music, film clips and interviews with the legendary band.  A masterpiece.

Hey Yah – by Outkast.  It’s old…. It’s new.  It’s black….. it’s blue.  This is the coolest video I’ve seen in years.  Check it out at www.mtv.com.  The album has garnered six Grammy nominations.  They must be doing something right.
