| Saturday brought another relaxing, sun-drenched
day.
People hung out by the pool catching up with old friends, explored the
greater
Tucson area, shopped in the Brat Bazaar and in general had a great
time.
Late that afternoon we got together for the class picture and then
headed
out to dinner. We were joined by the classes of 1978 (Tom Swete,
John
Curry, Karin Johansson- Hannusch and Julie Light-Githens) and 1980
(Karen
Alexander). We went to The Metropolitan Grill, a continental restaurant just a few miles down the road. It has surprisingly good food. We had a great time there in 2001 and thought a return trip was in order. They did not disappoint. The food was terrific, the company even better. Robin Van Der Zee-Sego, Danny Norton and Shawndell Plum As dinner was winding down, Robin Van Der Zee-Sego presented me with a terrific plaque made up of a brass tray with a camel, coffee pot and map of our homeland on it. On the back was engraved: To Daniel Norton
Needless to say, I was really touched by the gesture. It was very
thoughtful. I want to thank all of you for a very flattering
award. I particularly want to thank Robin and Deidre
Halpin-Ambrose, who, rumor has
it, put it together. Robin was really on top of her game. I
sat
next to her on the drive to the restaurant and at dinner and had no
clue
as to what was up. If she ever gets tired of being a
veterinarian, the
CIA is waiting. I bet she could find Bin Laden. With Thanks From Dhahran Class of 1979 I’m not the only one that was short a few clues. As we finished dinner, we asked for the check, only to be told that it had already been paid. It turns out that Tom Swete and others (who were seated at the next table) picked up our tab with theirs. I’d like to say their actions speak to their generosity, but the truth is less complex. They were just oblivious. We were even less together…. we actually told them and paid up. |
Gen Johansson-Sullivan and Janine Kline-Kane On Sunday we slept in, bowled, relaxed by the pool and got ready for the grand finale. After enjoying a delicious meal and listening to several presentations and awards we danced, talked and drank the night away. The driven among us stayed up to see the sunset. The morning came too soon, bringing an end to another great (if slightly under-sized) Reunion. Karen Alexander (DH 80), Julie Sawaya and Maria Manwaring-Melikian. Karen Alexander (DH 80), Julie Sawaya and Maria Manwaring-Melikian. Saib Isa left Houston, TX and is now in Vancouver. John O’Mara moved from Arlington, VA to China. Randy Pollard moved from Griffin, GA to Austin. New! and (hopefully) Improved!
We’ve added some Tucson Reunion pictures, a list of our classmates’
birthdays and a section in memory of those who are no longer with
us. Our home page address is: homepage.mac.com/dmn1/DH79/index.shtml Shukron! Thank you to Jimmy Curry and Monica Roppel for their generous contributions to the Newsletter. |
