| Tucson…. and on…. and on…. Last May, the Brat tribe returned to Tucson for some more Reunion fun in the Arizona sun. The weather was amazing. The days were bright and sunny, the evenings cool and breezy. Unfortunately, the weak economy and smoldering war in Iraq conspired to limit attendance. Only about half as many Brats were on hand to grace the halls of the (now Hilton) El Conquistador this time around. It was still really good fun, though the parties were a little quieter and the nights a little shorter than in Reunions past. Perhaps we’re just getting old. We had about fifteen in attendance over the course of the weekend. That was one of the better turnouts but it wasn’t quite up to par with the showing we had in 2001. The festivities began with a bang on Thursday night as a geezer Brat (DH 60) who was hitting the sadiqi a little too hard got way out of line, making some comments that quickly led to a mini-brawl. |
Security arrived (no, not Saeed) and took the Bozo away in handcuffs. I’m happy to report that not a single member of the Class of ’79 was involved. Friday brought the Reunion’s formal opening and by that evening most of our class had arrived. Joe Burwell, his wife Yana, and Robin Van Der Zee and I enjoyed a terrific dinner at the Outback, while Maria Manwaring-Melikian, Julie Sawaya, Shawndell Plum, Steve Rush and Karen Alexander (DH 80) went out for sushi. Others dined a little closer to home.
