In the Spotlight

After twenty-one years and a veritable mountain of PVLs, Mr. Rigler retired from Aramco and is now living the good life in Tempe, AZ.  Not content to work on his golf game and prune the petunias, Mr. Rigler has gone home to the classroom, where he teaches basic English composition and expository writing at a community college.

Mr. Rigler was already a Middle East veteran when he arrived in Dhahran in 1975 from war torn Beirut.   He had lived there for seven years, teaching at the American Community School and enjoying life in the city.  He loved the country but didn't care much for the Civil War.

Mr. Rigler grew up in Philadelphia and went to Xavier University on a football scholarship.  He coached football and taught English at high schools in Kentucky and Philadelphia for a few years before moving to Beirut.

While in Arabia, Mr. Rigler worked tirelessly to support the Palestinians by writing letters and editorials to newspapers and magazines.  He also served as commissioner of the Swim League and worked with an environmental group.  He wrapped up his career by holding down three parts in a production of "Julius Ceasar".

The Riglers traveled extensively, visiting fifty-six countries throughout Europe, Asia and Africa.  The highlight of their travels was a ten day trip through the Masai Marra Game Reserve in Kenya.
