One down. The Elephant.
This herd was enjoying a mud bath when we encountered them an hour's drive from the Olifants Gate entrance. It took some steely nerves from Anna in the driver's seat to ensure we snagged such a superb view - it's not easy blocking out barked directions from passengers while weighing the very real possibility a charge by an enraged bull!
There were a few tense moments while watching this herd, as some of the other drivers jostling for a view made a few elephants decidedly stroppy, hence the flapping ears. No idea how long the entire encounter lasted but it was a tremendous surprise and seemingly a happy portent for the game viewing still to come in our three days in the Kruger.
