About the author of this blog

I was born and raised in Sydney, Australia and now work for a non-profit educational foundation in the US.

I have studied at universities in Australia (Macquarie University in Sydney - BA (Hons) in history, Germany (the University of Mainz in then West Germany), the US (Stanford University with an MA in modern European history), and Britain (a PhD from King's College, Cambridge). After living and studying in these places I consider myself to be a citizen of the world and a supporter of no particular nation state. Before moving to the US with my family I taught modern European history at the University of Adelaide, South Australia. The three areas I specialized in were the intellectual and cultural history of war, film and history, and the ideas and movements for liberation which burst on the scene in western Europe and the Americas in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Some of my research and teaching interests are represented on my website. A bit more about me.
