US has 4th highest number of executions after China, Iran, and Vietnam

The Independent comments on an Amnesty International report that the US has the 4th highest number of executions (59) after China (3,400), Iran (159), and Vietnam (64). Over 120 countries have abolished the death penalty so far, thus leaving the "land of the free and the home of the brave" once again marching to the beat of a different drummer. There have also been some reports recently that the "cocktail" of lethal drugs given by injection in some states may in fact keep the victim aware of excruciating pain but paralysed to express what they feel to others. Similar "cocktails" have been banned for use on American animals but not apparently on American humans.
