XSite Pro or MiniSite Creator... If I had to choose...

Question: I was debating whether to get Jim Edwards' MiniSite Creator course, or go with XSite Pro to make my websites. It seems like XSitePro is quicker and a lot more flexible, but MiniSite Creator might be more detailed. Does one offer info that the other one doesn't? If you had to chose one, which one would it be?

Answer: Which one you get depends on what you want to do. They both offer extensive video training.

Jim Edwards' MiniSite Creator (MSC) is a solid course. It teaches you html and how to make sites by hand, using mostly free and low cost tools. It's a complete and detailed course on site making basics. By the end of the course you'll be able to make sites the old fashioned way... by hand. You might not win any graphic design awards, but at least you'll be familiar with html code, and have the ability to edit it, should you need to do so.

Intellimon's XSite Pro (XSP) is great for making good-looking sites, and is the production tool of choice for most of my friends who use Windows. It's not a course, so you won't be learning html, as most of that is hidden under-the-hood so to speak. It's a publishing platform that lets you pump out sites quickly and easily without having to know all the nitty gritty behind-the-scenes stuff.

Also, when it comes to the video training, I have to give a slight edge to XSite Pro for one reason. The MSC videos are on CDs, and any training that "ships to your door" can get outdated pretty quickly. The XSite videos are online and therefore easier for them to keep up to date.

Perhaps the best way to answer you question is with an analogy... If you want to know how to FIX the car get MCS. If you just want to know how to DRIVE the car get XSP.

If I had to suggest just one? I'd tell you to get XSite Pro. Why? Because you said that your objective is to "make sites" not learn html. So, if you choose to go with XSite Pro, you'll be "up to speed" and making sites in just a couple of days.
