Wider. Big panel. X-O is flying, carrying a STATION WAGON
away from the trestle it broke through when it ran off the
road and over a cliff.
X-O
Great. Listen, I’m kinda in the middle of
something. I’ll see you in a bit.
X-O CAPTION
I pretty much wrecked the car when I
caught it.

Panel 1
Big panel. The car is on the ground. The family is
standing around it, smiling and waving at the receding
figure of a flying X-O.
X-O CAPTION
On the other hand, it ended up in a lot
better shape than if it had crashed
into
the bottom of the cliffs.
X-O CAPTION
For that matter, so did the family inside.
They seemed almost grateful
for the
opportunity to pay higher insurance rates.
Closer on X-O, landing in an alley.
X-O CAPTION
Funny. That kind of action barely raises a
sweat anymore.
The Armor is withdrawing into the medallion.
X-O CAPTION
But the thought of seeing my ex-girlfriend
again has my heart racing like a rabbit’s.
Thalia’s office is in.
X-O CAPTION
Did I just say, “ex-girlfriend”? We never
really
broke up.
X-O CAPTION
Well, you know what Freud would say if he
were alive today...
Donovan comes through the door to THALIA’S WAITING ROOM.
Sitting there is a seven year-old BOY, playing with a
wooden car and his MOTHER, who is reading a magazine.
X-O CAPTION
...He’d say, “Help me! I’m buried alive!”

Panel 1
Close on a radar screen. There is a BLIP near the center.
OFF-PANEL LAIDLAW
That’s it, Colonel Laidlaw. He’s on the
move....
Wide. We’re in the back of A MOBILE COMMAND CENTER.
LAIDLAW is pointing at the screen. MEG is prominent among
the soldiers here. All are dressed in hi-tech
riot/commando gear.
LAIDLAW
Good. If our intelligence is accurate,
he’ll be heading for the bank. Major
Wylie? Commence stage one.
Favoring Meg, talking into her headset
MEG
Commence Stage One.
MEG
Follow the blip, soldiers, not the man. We
don’t want him to spot us before he’s in
position.
Favoring Laidlaw, talking to Meg.
LAIDLAW
Commence Stage Two. Pull out the bank
personnel and replace them with our men.
LAIDLAW
And have Renata prepare a com-link to X-O.
We’re almost ready for him.
Meg barks orders to the room.
MEG
You heard the Colonel. We’re hot. Move it
out

Panel 1
Back at the waiting Room. Mom is oblivious. Wylie looks on
in bemusement as the Boy calmly lights the wooden car on
fire with a match.
DONOVAN
So. What are you
here for?
Donovan takes the burning car from the Boy.
DONOVAN
I don’t work and play well with the other
kids.
BOY
Hey! That’s mine! Gimme!
