Panel 1
Big panel. Deathlok casually lifts Phil and his desk up with
one hand. Behind him are images (head shots) of IRON MAN,
THE SUB MARINER, HULK and THOR,

DEATHLOK
Verystrong. to put it in perspective,
I'm stronger than Iron Manand the Sub
Mariner
, but weaker than the Hulkand
Thor.

CLASS

Oooooooooh!

Panel 2
Deathlok is setting Phil down as GEORGE asks a question.

GEORGE

Can you feel pain?

DEATHLOK
Yes. My tactile sensors interpret extreme
levels of imput as potentially dangerous
and cause me to experience them as
discomfort or pain.

Panel 3
Close on Deathlok's Head.

DEATHLOK
That's to protect me from hurting myself
before I figure out what's going on, in
much the same way that if you
accidentally stick your hand in a fire,
the pain will cause you to pull away,
long before you understandthat your
hand's in a fire and it could be burned.

Panel 4
Wide again. BRAD is a fat obnoxious kid spouting off to an
irritated Deathlok.

BRAD
My dad says that you're a liberaland
you're out of touch with the American
mainstream.

DEATHLOK
So were George Washington and Thomas
Jefferson. What's your point?

Page 5

SUSIE is tugging on Deathlok's sleeve.

SUSIE
Excuse me. People keep mentioning the
"other" Deathlok and the old Deathlok?
What are they talking about?

DEATHLOK
I wish I knew. Maybe I'll find out
someday.*

BOTTOM CAPTION
* He will! The secret of the previous
Deathlok will be revealed in a special
four-part story called "Alternatives" On
sale TK! -Tom.

Page 5
Panel 1
STEVE is behind Deathlok trying to reach his backpack.

STEVE
Deathlok? What's in your backpack?

DEATHLOK
My stuff! Hands off.

Panel 2
CHRIS is in his seat with his hand up.

CHRIS
How come you spend so much time looking
for your regular human body? Wouldn't it
be better if you just got rid of it?

DEATHLOK
Absolutely not. That body isn't just a
piece of meat. It's my humanity.

Panel 3
Tighter on Deathlok.

DEATHLOK
It represents my potential for a life as
a normal man. Without the slimhope of
a cure that my body's existence
represents, I'd have no reason to go on.
I might as well be dead.

Panel 4
Angle on Brad.

Page 6

BRAD
I wish you were. I'm sickof your
liberal, secular humanist, whining. Your
thinking is too simplistic:Corporations
and governments are bad, individuals are
good. Heck, myworld view is more
complex than that, and I'm only eight
years old.

DEATHLOK
Wouldn't know it to hear you.

Panel 5
Big panel. Brad and Deathlok face to face.

BRAD
Answer me this:How can you accept the
benefits of living in this country and
enjoy the fruits of the corporations you
think are so evil and still be so
critical?

DEATHLOK
Just because something is "good" doesn't
make it above criticism.--

Page 6

Panel 1
Favoring the metal side of Deathlok's face.

OFF PANEL BRAD
--Typical leftist relativism.

DEATHLOK
Large organizations do have advantages,
they can accomplish things that
individuals can't. But there's a down
side. Any group tends to
have...dehumanizing side effects.

Panel 2
Deathlok is still explaining to an unmoved Brad. He's yawning
theatrically.
BRAD
Commie lib.

DEATHLOK
Slapping labels on people and questioning
the good intentions of those who see the
world differently than you doesn't help
anybody.
