TV series version of La Femme Nikita
may be an influence here. In the show,
Nikita (Peta Wilson) finds one avenue of self-expression in the clamped down
Section One through her vast collection of sunglasses. Sunglasses, like smoking
and certain signature attires, are in cinematic terms the essence of cool. In
the annals of movies, Iris (Jodie Foster) in
Taxi
Driver also shows off a collection of
novelty sunglasses. From Luc Besson's film to its American remake (which had an
influence on Pulp
Fiction) and finally to the TV series,
which anticipated
Alias
(one of Tarantino's favorite shows, and in a general way an influence on
Kill
Bill) , the Nikita character is important
to Tarantino's sensibility.
