welcome stair-walkers !
...and please keep reading to learn about my best-selling book, “BANANA: The Fate of the Fruit that Changed The World.”
If you came here after viewing Jane Monreal’s report on KABC, you might also want to read the LA Times article, here.
there are two routes available:
SHORT VERSION: the first is the easy (about four miles/two hours or less) route through Silverlake. That’s the one you heard about, probably, on KABC television.
Download the turn-by-turn directions by clicking here.

KILLLER VERSION: the second is the full route that includes all 52 staircases, covering nearly 18 miles in Silverlake and Echo park.

Some of the mileages are inaccurate on the charts, because they are being revised, but the actual turn-by-turn directions are correct. For reasons that will become EXCEEDINGLY obvious when you do the walks, maps are totally impractical - text directions work far better. Trust me.
---and remember, if you get lost, don’t blame me---
also, about the banana picture:
I have a new book out and it is really interesting. When you are tired and recovering from the stair walk, you should read it. Please visit my main site and learn why bananas might be disappearing from the face of the earth (really.)
you can visit my website here.
You can find contact info for me there, too, as well as in the downloadable stair lists. I lead semi-regular walks for all levels; get in touch with me for more info. I’ve got other variations on the walks, ranging from six to eleven miles, in both Echo Park and Silverlake, as well. Contact me if you’re interested.
The stair lists are free, but they are copyrighted. That means you can give them to anybody you like. You can put them on your website. But you can't sell them or do anything commercial with them.
For more stairs, try to pick up “Stairway Walks in Los Angeles,” by Adah Bakalinsky and Larry Gordon; the book is out of print, but you can find it at the library.
thanks for your visit.
