Day 5: LA, Part 2

I'll start by recapping Day 4 in a bit more detail. Once I left Union Station, I walked around downtown LA for a few hours. It still smells like pee, but they are working on stuff, such as the new building for Caltrans (see above, aka California Department of Transportation). It's a hideous design by some Starchitect. That section on the right actually is the address -- 100 -- in huge letters on the front of the building. It really is a complete abomination.

After walking around and smelling pee (they really need to power-wash downtown), I remembered that I also might smell bad, having slept in coach. My last shower was Friday morning. I called Betsy and gave her an ETA. I hopped on the Red Line subway to return to Union Station, then transfered to the Gold Line light rail for the trip out to Highland Park. From the light rail station I decided to walk instead of wait for the bus, and now I praise my Garmin GPS for the first time... just keep going north and east.

Ah, clean. While Betsy and I caught up, I plugged in my laptop/phone/iPod to recharge, and piled my first load of dirty travel laundry in her laundry room. Then it was off to lunch, a driving tour (unavoidable, it is LA after all), afternoon beers, sketch comedy, and a full night's sleep.

And now it is Sunday. I think I may do the Getty today, since it has been so highly recommended. I will attempt to get there via public transportation. The sun had better shine today.
