Day 2, Part 2: Albuquerque![]() I'm not sure what to make of Albuquerque just yet. There are no tall buildings in this city of 400,000 -- but what it lacks in skyline, it makes up for it with local color (and an over-abundance of stucco and turquoise). The entire downtown and Nob Hill areas are chock full of local businesses... lively ones, too. I tried out their Rapid Ride, which is a "lite" version of bus rapid transit, just like KC's MAX. It's really just an express bus with fancy shelters and read-outs that tell you when the next bus is coming. However, unlike true BRT, it doesn't allow you to pay your fare before you board, nor does it run in dedicated lanes with traffic signal controls. Regardless, I was able to make it to Nob Hill for $1 to try some authentic (according to Fodor's) New Mexican food at El Patio. I had the green chile chicken enchiladas, served with potatoes and a sopapilla. Very tasty. Tomorrow is Old Town, then I'm off to LA. I think I'll upgrade to a sleeper on this leg.
