Back o the West Coast - for 10 days
The time before Christmas in December is especially
nice for a Geologist, because there is the biggest of
all conferences, every year in San Francisco,
California. So, of course I had to go and present
some rocket-science. And it was great to be back in
the US, on the West Coast, for at least some time. I
stayed with Ansgar in Berkeley, and it was his
birthday too, and his friend Stefan from Australia
was there too, so we had lots of fun.
So, I had a Jack in the Box Burger (which was less exciting than I thought it would be - but I got another Jack antenna ball!), had great Sushi and Ethiopian cusine (this is what I really miss, the variety of food) and visited the Apple Store 5 times and listened to a number of very good talks. With 12.000 people at the Conference, it's hard to see everything. But it was worth it.

Thüringische Küche fernab der Heimat

Eine Dienstreise nach Berkeley, Kalifornien, Heimat
der bekannten Universität,
wo ich einen Vortrag halten durfte, brachte neben
dem Wiedersehen mit
Herrn Dr. Kahmen ein weiteres
Schmankerl. Ja, es war auch diesmal dort wieder
deutlich wärmer, eigentlich fast schon
spätfrühlingshafte 20 Grad. Neben dem Forschen und
schlendern durch das Mission District im nahen San
Franscisco konnten wir zum ersten Mal seit
gefühlten 100 Jahren wieder original thüringische
Küche geniessen.
Wirklich. Wir alle hatten Sauerbraten mit Rotkohl und Klößen. Und ein (oder 2) halbe Liter (!!!!) Radeberger Pils, gezapft. Was für ein Fest! Nun, das muss ich wohl erklären. Also, im Mission District von San Francisco haben 2 Leute aus Saalfeld vor Jahren eine Kneipe aufgemacht. Das Walzwerk. Kennern fällt nun sofort ein, das es in Sallfeld damals die Maxhütte gab, ein Walzwerk eben. Das Interoir kommt sehr nah an die Wartburg in Jena ran, nur ist das alles mit DDR Devotionalien zugehängt, das ist etwas zu viel des Guten. Aber versöhnt wird man auf dem Klo (Männer), dort hängt ein Werbeschild für Jenaer Biere. Alles in Allem: best food on the West Coast! (Man schau sich mal die Kommentare bei Google dazu an, man ist begeistert).
