The Sleeping Beauty - Olivia Dow
A Fairy Tale!

Olivia Dow - Marama Corlett

A fairy Tale by Charles Perrault, adapted for Ballet by Marius Petipa and Ivan Vsevolozhsky and composed by Peter Ilyick Tchaikovsky in the late 1880's, the Sleeping Beauty was first performed in Russia on the 15th January 1890 and was as lavish as Vsevolozhsky could make it!

This spectacular production will have the usual magical sparkle and splendour which we have now become accustomed to and expected of Olivia Dow and her incredible team of specialists, in particular Charles Axisa, ITC LIGHTING Sound by Wave Enterprises, Filming by Paul Parker and his crew and last but not least Olivia's husband John Baldacchino who is well known for his eye for detail and perfection.

Olivia Dow - The Sleeping Beauty

The Sleeping Beauty is one of the Tchaikovsky's best known ballets which has withstood the test of time. Tchaikovsky was as no other composer of his generation, ideally gifted to make a child's fairy-tale into a Masterpiece of danced musical drama.

Princess Aurora, played by vivacious Maltese ballerina Marama Corlett (pictured above) who has been coached by Olivia Dow since she was 11 years old, was hated since birth by wicked fairy called CARABOSSE (played by actor John Peel) who was not invited to her christening party at the Palace. Carabosse vowed to have vengeance and get rid of the Princess. So she cast a spell that one day the Princess will prick her finger and die. However the Lilac Fairy (played by the Russian dancer Iaroslava Araptanova) who was well known for her wisdom immediately changed the spell into one of "deep sleep" which will be broken by the handsome Prince ( Ivan Porochine) who will awaken her with the magic of a loving kiss! And as always love triumphs over hatred and evil.
