SIMPLICITY CONCERT TOUR IN MALTA AND
IN GERMANY
The year 2002 has been a fruitful one for musician
Clifford Borg. His piano recital at the superb St 'James Cavalier
last June was well received, and set the pace for the Simplicity
Tour of Europe which started in September through to November. The
tour included performances around Germany as well as number of Dates
in Paris, Luzern and Hinterrux.
The German dates were held in various locations
such as the beautiful Medieval Castle in Koblenz (Schloss Sconeck),
the Kunshtalle Museum Gallery in Koblenz (part of the museum night),
the Art Gallery in Vreden and other intimate music venues. Some
of the dates also involved other artists and events, including appearances
by German vocalist S.A.M Dew, a Vernissage Art Exhibition by Frank
Damm in Vreden and fireworks displays in the case of the German
performances.
Clifford`s performances were reviewed in several
German newspapers, including the Rhine Zeitung, Munsterland Zeitung,
Koblenz Kulturinfo and the Vreden Anzeiger. He was also interviewed
live on Enschede FM by Inga Tjapkes for the weekly cultural programme
"Puur". The programme also aired Clifford`s current single
Hoping. The Simplicity Concerts were organized in collaboration
with Lonestar Fireworks, featured works from Drifted, Clifford`s
acclaimed album of new age music, including recent compositions
Expectations and Simplicity. Other numbers in the set list included
jazz standards like Autumn leaves, Nature Boy and My Funny Valentine
and classical gems such as Ravel`s Pavanne Pour Une Infante Defunte
and Michael Nyman`s lauded The Promise form The Piano Soundtrack.
The core message of the Simplicity Tour is about how one can find
well-being, happiness and self fulfillment in the simple things
in life, and how sometimes, in the way we live our lives now, we
come to notice and appreciate the simpler things in life.
On his part, Clifford considers himself lucky
enough to have had this opportunity - to perform at locations so
stylish and bustling with character. He said that this was an experience
he never could or would forget, especially the concert at the Medieval
Castle, which he described as a surrealistic dream!

Vreden. Am vergangenen Donnerstagabend: Halloween-Time, viele
Geister und Hexen in den Straßen, und in der Aula der Musikschule
gab es einen Musikgenuss der besonderen Art. Die leider nur wenigen
Konzertbesucher waren total begeistert von der Musik und dem jungen
Pianisten und Komponisten aus Malta. Er arbeitete mit der Sängerin
S.A.M. Dew aus Gronau ein klangvolles Konzertprogramm aus Eigenkompositionen,
Filmmusiken - zum Beispiel aus "Das Piano" - und einigen
Jazzstandards zusammengestellt und bot diese gekonnt dar.
Die Aula der Musikschule und das obere Foyer waren
von Christoph Schmitt liebevoll dekoriert mit Kerzen, Bildern und
anderen stimmungsgebenden Accessoires. Clifford Borg inspirierte
mit seinem gefühlvollen und gekonnten Klavierspiel die Zuhörer
zum Träumen von Weite, Meer und Wärme. Auch einige Titel
seiner Eigenkompositionen wie "Wings" drückten die
phantasieanregende Wirkung der Musik dieses Abends aus. Entspanntes
Zuhören in einer in wohliges Kerzenlicht getauchten Aula ließ
die Zuhörer in Gedanken und Träumen schwelgen.
Die Sängerin S.A.M Dew passte sich den ruhigen
Klängen des Pianisten an und durchströmte die Musikschule
mit zwei Solosongs: "Sometimes I feel like a Motherless Child"
und "Amazing Grace". In den Jazzstandards, wie zum Beispiel
"My Funny Valentine" ergänzten sich Clifford Borg
und S.A.M Dew zu einem harmonischen, gut eingespielten Duett.
Der Höhepunkt des Abends was das Stück
"Autumn leaves", bei dem Christoph Schmitt das in und
vor den Fenstern der Aula installierte Feuerwerk zündete. Die
Wirkung von Musik, Kerzenschein und Feuerwerk beeindruckte tief.
Natürlich kamen die Musiker nicht ohne Zugabe
davon und es gab eine Premiere von Clifford Borg mit einem Stück,
das er gerade vor einer Woche komponiert hatte. - Ein unvergesslicher
Konzertabend.
Am 9. November sind Clifford Borg, S.A.M. Dew
und Christoph Schmitt noch einmal um 18 Uhr in der Kunstgalerie
Bahnhofstr. 30 bei der Vernissage des Künstlers Frank Damm
zu erleben.

Pianist Clifford Borg gastiert in Vreden
Vreden. Ein besonderes Konzert bietet die Musikschule
Vreden am Donnerstag, 31. Oktober, um 19.30 Uhr in der Aula der
Musikschule Vreden, Markt 6. Der junge Pianist Clifford Borg aus
Malta macht auf seiner "Simplicity-Concert-Tour Europe 2002"
Station in Vreden. Für einige Wochen wohnt er in Vreden bei
Freunden und tourt mit seinen verzaubernden Piano-Klängen durch
Europa.
Clifford Borg wurde 1976 geboren. Sein Vater war
ein professioneller Schlagzeuger in Australien. Borg begann sein
Klavierspiel im Alter von fünf Jahren. Mit zehn Jahren hatte
er erste professionelle Auftritte im Fernsehen. Seine ersten Kompositionen
führten ihn zum Universitätsstudium für Musik und
Klavier. Im Frühjahr 2002 wurde das erste eigene Album aufgenommen
und zwar in dem ältesten Theater Europas, dem "Manuel
Theater" in Valette auf Malta. Das Album umfasst zwölf
Eigenkompositionen.
Die Musikrichtung umschreibt der Künstler
selbst als klassischen "New age style". Ein Stück
namens "Hoping" wurde nun als eine "Dance-Trance-Version"
von einem namhaften deutschen DJ aufgelegt und wird in den mediterranen
Musikstationen bereits in den Charts gespielt. Die Europatour führt
ihn nach Deutschland, Frankreich, Österreich und die Schweiz.
Die Tour trägt den Titel "Simplicity"
und steht für eine Passion im Leben, die von dem Geschick eines
Jeden erzählen will, der es versteht den Moment zu berühren,
Glück um sich zu streuen und das Mehr im Leben zu verspüren.
Seine Musik verzaubert und lädt zum Träumen ein.
Alle Freunde der romantischen Klaviermusik sollten
sich diesen Termin vormerken und beim Klang der mediterranen Musikperlen

Die "Simplicity-Concert-Tour Europe 2002" des Pianisten
Clifford Borg aus Malta wird präsentiert durch www.lonestarfireworks.de,
Christoph Schmitt and Friends; hinter dieser Website verbirgt sich
eine junge kreative Firma, die Feuerwerke anbietet, die heller leuchten.
Clifford Borg wurde am 11. Mai 1976 geboren. Sein
Vater war ein professioneller Schlagzeuger in Australien. Borg selbst
begann mit dem Pianospiel im Alter von fünf Jahren. Kaum zehn
Jahre alt folgten erste professionelle Auftritte, so auch im Fernsehen
bei PBS. Erste Kompositionen führten ihn zum Universitätsstudium
in Musik und Piano. Im Jahre 2002 wurde das erste Debütalbum
aufgenommen in dem ältesten Theater in Europa, dem "Manuel
Theater" in Valletta auf Malta. Das Album umfasst 12 Stücke,
die alle von Borg selbst komponiert wurden und zum Teil mit Violinenbegleitung
präsentiert werden. Die Musikrichtung beschreibt der Künstler
selbst als klassischen "New Age Style". Eines der Stücke
namens "Hoping" wurde nun als eine "Dance-Trance-Version"
von einem namhaften deutschen DJ M.Hofman aufgelegt und wird in

FEUERWERK
Am Samstag wird auf Schloss Schöneck in Herschwiesen ein ganz
besonderes Konzert geboten.
Herschwiesen. Schon immer haben Musik und Feuerwerk
die Menschen begeistert. Der Koblenzer Pyrotechniker Christoph Schmitt
sorgt am Samstag, 5. Oktober, um 19.30 Uhr im Schloss Schöneck
in Herschwiesen für ein besonderes Event: Der Pianist Clifford
Borg aus Malta wird - umrahmt von einem Feuerwerk - seine Kompositionen
vortragen. Unterstützt wird er dabei von der Sängerin
S.A.M Dew und der Geigerin Olga Großmann.
"Ich habe Clifford Borg in Malta kennengelernt
und war von seinem Pianospiel begeistert." erzählt Christoph
Schmitt. Und er habe beschlossen, ihm eine Plattform in Deutschland
zu umrahmen. "Eigentlich habe ich plastische Chirurgie gelernt."
sagt Schmitt. "Aber schon zur Studienzeit kam meine Leidenschaft
für die Pyrotechnik auf." Dabei haben es ihm weniger große
"Massen-Feuerwerke", sondern eher die raffinierten Spezialeffekte
angetan: "Wasserfälle", zeitverzögerte "Bomben",
Lichterbilder - so manches überraschte "Aaah" und
"Ooh" hat Schmitt mit seiner Firma "Lonestar"
schon hervorgerufen. Musikalische Feuerwerke sind inzwischen eine
weitere Spezialität. So hat Schmitt auch auf Sanssouci in Potsdam
schon Open-Airs gestaltet.
"Wenn es parallel zu einem Musikstück
Feuerwerk geben soll, muss man aufpassen, damit die Musik nicht
übertönt wird." Entsprechend soll auch auf Schloss
Schöneck eine Kombination aus sogenanntem Barockfeuerwerk (mit
gleißenden, fließenden Effekten) und einem großen
Höhenfeuerwerk gezeigt werden.

at Koblenz, on the banks of the River Rhine. Clifford has already
achieved a certain reputation among the more discerning local music
lovers as an exponent of new age and classical music. Although he
has performed at a number of local concerts, playing selections
from his own repertoire and that of the classical masters, this
tour in Germany will be his first experience abroad. The tour is
expected to last over two months, during which time Clifford will
be performing solo and in conjunction with local artists and ensembles.
The tour will feature works from Clifford's CD entitled Drifted.
This CD has been well received locally, and it was as a result of
this achievement that Clifford's talent was recognized and the tour
materialized. Clifford is currently working on another compilation
that is expected to be released towards the middle of next year.

He is currently working another compilation, which is expected to
be released towards the middle of next year. Although Clifford has
hosted a number of concerts in Malta, playing selections from his

will be his first experience abroad. Clifford will be performing

Clifford Borg is a name that has not featured
often in classical music circles but he will certainly be talked
about quite often after presenting a concert entitled 'Simplicity'
at St James Cavalier recently. His style ranges from the sentimental
sweetmeats of Chopin to the more romanticized and heart throbbing
music of Richard Clayderman and Mike Oldfield, both well established
artists in this genre.
The first part of the concert consisted of a number
of items that have already been released in the 'Drifted' CD which
launched Clifford onto the scene. Firm favourites such as 'Denied',
'Longing Dawn' and 'Raindrops' confirm the beautiful melodic music,
full of nostalgia and whimsical memories, almost like a soul searching
for its mate. There are times when the tunes are moving and emotion
can get the better of one, notwithstanding Borg's complete self
control that also is clear in his pianistic skills that are quite
commendable.
Josie Scerri sang 'Nature Boy' from Moulin Rouge
accompanied by Borg. Her pale orange outfit complemented perfectly
with the sweet, lithe voice that emanates from this seductive yet
strangely mesmerizing figure, almost as mysterious as Clifford himself.
The new items in this first part were 'Expectations' and 'Simplicity',
both inherently beautiful yet sometimes lacking the sheer melodic
invention of the earlier items.
The second part of the concert had much more new
material that confirms Clifford's continual inspiration. 'Within
a Jealous Game' is rather static although one can sense deep personal
afflictions. My favourites were the aptly titled 'Orange Forever',
a wonderful piece that shifts from elation to depression in one
moment and 'Calm', an oasis of peace and special wonder. Josie was
back with Bjork's emotional 'New World', also sung with passion
and that soft elation.
You may not think that Clifford Borg's music is
of a cerebrally qualitative nature but he is definitely a heart
on sleeve character that expresses all in his music. 'Simplicity'
was certainly an event that conveyed all that with particular directness.
A recital by up-and-coming pianist Clifford Borg
is being held on Friday in the intimate surroundings of St James
Cavalier Centre for Creativity in Valletta. The recital, titled
Simplicity, will include original compositions from his debut CD
Drifted, which has 13 tracks. It will reunite Clifford Borg with
his long-time friend Josie Scerri, an established singer who will
be a special guest on the night. The two, together with Joseph Chetcuti
had formed a band called Orion. As a band they had taken part in
the Song for Europe Festival in 1998.
In the meantime, each musician has been pushing
their solo career and Borg, 26, has achieved a considerable amount
in a short time. He reached a high when he was invited to perform
a piano recital at the President's Palace, where his music was described
as "sentimental, deep and mysterious". Coming from a musical
family - his father was a professional drummer in Australia and
his sisters play the bass and sing - Borg started playing the piano
when he was five. At the age of six he teamed up with his father
and his two sisters to play in front of a big audience at the family's
restaurant. The family band then went on to form the group called
The Islanders and they used to play in clubs and hotels across Malta.
Clifford Borg is now swiftly climbing the ladder
of success and he has several piano concerts lined up later this
year in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

It is with joy that we see another name cropping up in the local
artistic scene. Twenty-six year old pianist Clifford Borg has achieved
a lot yet in a brief span of time. Initially a young piano enthusiast,
Clifford can now boast for having reached high levels through hard
work.
The artist started playing when he was five years
in his family musical group, and then he moved on to a solo career.
Late last year, Clifford performed on the piano at the President`s
residence. The President himself has described Clifford`s music
as sentimental, deep and mysterious. Similar piano recitals will
be held at St. James Cavalier on the 28th of June, accompanied by
the title "Simplicity" which ties up very neatly with
the pianist's down to earth character. Josie Scerri, an established
singer in musicals will appear as a special guest star on this occasion.
Borg, being a born artist has possibly produced the most melodic
and sweetest music on this island. The original compositions from
his debut Cd "Drifted" will be included in the piano recitals,
alongside with other material. Drifted, also features well known
musicians in the classical field, Jean and Paul Micallef Grimaud.
It is by no surprise that Clifford like many
other artists wishes to have some exposure in the international
scene. In fact, he is lining up for several piano concerts in Germany,
Switzerland and Austria. The recent collaboration of Clifford Borg
with the versatile and well known producer in Germany M.Hofmann,
gave birth to the up-beat ambient dance track "Hoping"
which also features on the album. Hoping is also being played by
Malta`s top deejays such as Simon B, Dj Steve and N`Heaven. Those

Clifford attributes the harmony and vitality
imparted to his music to the everyday situations in life, but also
to the many years he has been playing the piano. However, he adds
that though academic training can perfect talents it can never become
the sole agent, which guarantees success. He truly believes that
creativity is something innate. His universal music appeals to everyone
and the message put forward in his compositions is one of hope and
love. The road to success may be distant and full of obstacles but
determination is certainly not lacking in Clifford's lively personality.
No matter what, his ultimate objective is to compose professional
music, which touches people`s lives in different ways. Undoubtedly
it has already done so and it is now in many people`s heart.
