Genma's Daughter

By Deborah Goldsmith

Original concept and parts of chapter 1 by Steve Pardue

When Ranma meets his mother for the first time, he learns the shocking truth about his family

Steve Pardue posted a short concept sketch on his web site, and I was intrigued by the idea. I asked Steve if he would mind if I took over the story, and he was supportive and enthusiastic. Several hundred pages later, here is the result!

I’d like to express my deep appreciation to my prereaders: Steve (of course), Rachel Blackman, Zen, and Nick Leifker. They made “Genma’s Daughter” far better than it would otherwise have been.

Note: there’s been some confusion about where “Genma’s Daughter” fits in the Ranma ½ timeline. It takes place immediately after (Japanese) volume 10 of the manga, after the Tsubasa storyline, and before the story “Ryouga Goes Home” in volume 11. In hindsight, I should have made this more clear in the story itself.

Please email me and let me know how you like it. My email address is dgoldsmith@mac.com.

A good CD which has the Bach Partita for solo violin in E Major is “Hilary Hahn Plays Bach.” You can listen to the first minute of the Gavotte en Rondeau at this page.

Hilary was only 16 when she recorded this, her debut CD. I used her as a model for Ranko as a violinist.

The score for the Gavotte en Rondeau can be found here.

You can buy the Gavotte en Rondeau at the iTunes Music Store from performances by Itzhak Perlman Sonatas and Partitas, Partita No.3, Gavotte en Rondo, BWV 1006 and Jascha Heifetz Partita No. 3 in E Major, BWV 1006, III. Gavotte en Rondeau (among others).
