OVERVIEW a sort-of Home page
Updated 05March2005 - This is the 20th century; in case u didn't know.
This overview is to convey what is involved in the "RigProject", mobile radio station.
Another site is the Battery Project, see BatteryProject for more details...
At present I only have two sites showing stuff that I have done to the cruiser.
Hopefully this site works ok with Windows IE, any problems, well too bad. The site does work with Safari and Macintosh IE.
Many of the JPG type photos are fairly high res and may require some download time...
Wiring, page and FIG number references refer to my original hand drawn schematics and may not coordinate on this site.
The mobile Amateur Radio system is based around the Yaesu FT100d (you must be FCC licensed to operate this equipment); which operates all bands at about 90 watts transmit power (except VHF & UHF). The vehicle is a 1994 Toyota Landcruiser (1FZJ-USA spec) and is fitted with up to 3 antennas. The main antenna for HF frequencies is the Sierra remote tuned and is mounted on a special rear bumper design (By SleeOffRoad). The other main antenna is the Yeasu ATAS100 mounted on the roof rack and raised and lowered remotely. The VHF/UHF antenna is also mounted on the roof rack and raised/lowered by remote control motors. The ATAS100 is not used at the present time.
The Tuffy consul is a unit made right here in Colorado. It will fit in the FJ80 (Landcuiser), but you will have to do some clever mounting schemes. This unit houses electronics and control and provides the correct arm height for comfortable driving. Plus you can put lots of junk inside. The consul is wired with VSWR meters for VHF/UHF/HF, and control of antenna motors.
