Barbara Deming Memorial Peace Walk
General Information on the 1996 Walk
Celebrate nonviolent resistance this summer!
Walk with us for a morning or a month as part of a 300 mile walk towards a future of peace and justice.
We left from Seneca Falls, NY on July 19, 1996 and walked about 10 miles a day speaking for peace and justice. Seneca Falls is the home of the 1848 Women's Rights Convention and the Declaration of Sentiments. We celebrated our history of nonviolent resistance, remembering our past and looking forward in this critical time, when freedom of all types of expression are being challenged. We arrived in New York City on August 26, 1996 - the anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote.
