first trip to seneca falls. 200 miles from troy. overcast and windy day. women's peace encampment of 1983 was in romulus, about 20 miles south of seneca falls. this was the final walk barbara undertook which was blocked in waterloo. waterloo is right next to seneca falls. andy mager had some good information over email about this walk. the encampment appears to have been near or at the seneca army base in romulus - though i saw no signs of it on rt. 96. (i don't know what i was looking for, either.)

the route is covered with wildflowers, even so late in the year. the historical society has no current information, but has possibilities as a performance site - an old 23-room mansion. more likely is the women's right's national park in the center of town. a falling down structure of the church (wesleyan chapel) that began the suffrage movement (in 1848) and an outdoor seating pavilion are the best outdoor locations. inside the park office is permanent gallery and museum exhibits, but also there is a small room for temporary artistic exhibits - black and white factory photos when i was there. also has a 75 seat theatre with screen and light board, two slide projectors and audio amplification. this would be a great spot for a performance. nyc to seneca (notice the direction change) would be about 300 miles (miscalculation which helped me start organizing) - over a month to walk. it could be interesting to find unsung heroines along the way.

the park could use a deming memorial garden.
