Navigating my story:
Hypermedia makes it possible to access information in diverse ways with varied learning styles. One simple example is to use images to support text so visual and auditory learners can both be accommodated. Hyperlinks also make it possible to "consume" information in a nonlinear fashion. I like to think of ways to utilize hypermedia to serve different learners, therefore, the following summary of my background can be read linearly or you can click on the icons below to create your own path through my story.

In June of 2002 I completed my master of education degree at Harvard University in the Technology in Education Program. The Technology in Education Program (TIE) at the Harvard Graduate School of Education is focused on understanding effective, scalable, and sustainable educational models that use technologies to address the needs of diverse learners. While at Harvard, I have focused my academics on thinking innovatively about supporting classroom teaching and practice with technology in meaningful ways. I have also studied educational media design, curriculum design, and online learning.

While at Harvard, I have worked with Boston College’s PT3 grant (Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to use Technology), developed high school curriculum with the Harvard Technology and Ethics group, and worked with Dr. Chris Dede to develop an online portal to support new teachers in the Milwaukee Public School District.

While at Harvard, I also conducted formative evaluation for an installation at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, an upcoming IMAX movie on Jane Goodall, and high school software on cellular biology under the supervision of Dr. Ilona Holland.

Before coming to Harvard, I taught elementary school for six years in Southern California. Part of my professional focus was to develop ways to leverage the affordances of technology to support curriculum in meaningful ways. With regard to technology, I was a leader in my school and district in technology integration in the classroom. I have in-serviced staff in educational technology, served on my school's technology committee, and helped to develop a comprehensive school technology plan.

While teaching, I was nominated for the National PTA Outstanding Educator Award, Amgen Outstanding Teacher of the Year, and was awarded the 2000 A.A.U.W. Annie H. Ryder Memorial Fellowship and the 1993 Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarship for Outstanding Teaching Portfolio.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and comparative literature from Occidental College and California elementary and secondary credentials from California Lutheran University.

William was born during my first spring semester so I consider him my spring project while at Harvard. In my spare time, I love to spend time with my husband and William. I also love to play ultimate frisbee, hike, read, and draw.
