Bali- Amazing color & textures, Exquisite scenery and beauty in every detail.
In 1997 I was lucky enough to go to Asia while consulting with Rich Lewis and Tak Toda at TSL Design Group. While working on the Planning and Design for several new Duty Free Shoppers stores in Asia I traveled to Bali with Tak. We spent a week there working on Block Plans and Site Surveys, but the bulk of our time was spent traveling though this charming Island doing research on local materials and artist. We visited the best Stone Carvers, Woodcarvers and Artist as well as several local building supply and stone yards. We also visited many of the beautiful luxury resort hotels. Bali has only been open to the West since the seventies and its tourist development has been controlled. The modern use of traditional materials and building is very respectful to the techniques and styles of traditional Balinese Architecture. We also had an opportunity to see several of the historic sites, temples and monuments. This was my first trip to Asia which had been a longtime dream of mine. Tak was an excellent travel companion, and true gentleman, many of the better photos were taken by him. Although we had planned to go back, due to a change in the project we did not return for that project. I cannot wait to return again on my own to what is truly one of the most beautiful, exotic, gentle and exciting places I have ever been.
