Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita. Just 21 of these, though standard and standing varies. Same rules as DOC but stricter ... wine is also analysed and tasted by special panel before getting accolade. Top quality level.

One not to forget ... means wine library, in practice a wine bar or shop, usually with excellent range of wine to taste in the glass and take away by the bottle. Often first-class place for lunch or snack.

Super Tuscan
Name for Chianti-area wines - dating back to 1980s - that didnt stick to DOC / DOCG rules about grape varieties. Usually Cabernet had sneaked in there to some degree. As a result they were classified as simple vino da tavola (selling at soaraway prices).
