Now We're Incommunigato

How did this happen anyhow?

I wanted to go to the Miami Boat Show in 2001. My thought was to look at some center console sport fisherman as my 17 foot Wellcraft was getting long in the tooth. Larry Payne agreed to accompany me. He wanted to price some sailboat hardware with an eye to fixing up a  derelict old boat.

Since we were at the strictly sail show, Larry suggested that we look at a few of the boats. We looked at several of the monohulls. Beautiful boats but nothing that lit my fire.

Then Larry suggested we take a quick walk up the multi-hull pier. Seemed harmless at the time. But:

We walked onto the Maine Cat 30. At the time there were about 8 people on the bridgedeck but it was not crowded. I sat down at the table on the bridgedeck and thought, "The only thing wrong with this boat is that it is in the Miami harbor and not the Bahamas." But what did I know? I had never sailed a cat, not even a Hoby.

Then Lynn told me they had two available for charter in Hope Town. I asked her to mail me the charter information.

Larry and I continued around the multi-hull area but nothing else caught my fancy. I kept thinking about the Maine Cat with that big open bridgedeck.

I returned to the Maine Cat with two penetrating nautical questions for Lynn. First, did the charter boat have screens for the bridgedeck and second did the charter boat have a grill?  With a yes answer to both questions, I was convinced a charter was in the future.
