Remember her as extremely pleasant and easy going person. Quiet, kind, and well loved by all her family and friends. Also very hard working. (I'm guessing the following may have been at Maggie's 75th b'day.)

Maggie May Hottel was born in New Albany, Ind, Sept. 11th, 1891. The eldest child of Lee A. Hottel and Martha Alice Read Hottel, Her father was a native of the Fredricksburg, Ind. commumity. Her mother was born in London, England but brought to America as a small child by her parents
George and Frances Read.

Maggie May was the title of a song that grandfather George Read often sang to his children and was a favorite of Maggie's mother. That is the reason the name was given to Martha's first daughter. She was the mother of two more daughters and three sons. The last of her six children, a little
girl, was born Nov. 24th, 1900. The mother passed away a few hours later. The little baby was taken in by the father's Aunt Esther Evans and remained with the Aunt until age 19 yrs. The two older boys, Willard 7 and Earl five remained with the father. Ralph aged two years spent some time with Mr. and Mrs. Nye, and with Mr and Mrs John Orum.

Frances (called Fannie) went to live with the Mother's sister Mrs John Murr, and Rev John Murr. Maggie stayed in the home of Mr and Mrs Robert LaFollette. After the father's marriage to Miss Linda Wright of New Middleton, Ind. he gathered the children together again, with the exception
of the baby Martha (called Mattie). There were six more children by the second wife, five living and one, Carl, stillborn. The children were Edna, Jessie, Charity, Harry, and Si. All treated lovingly and impartially by the second mother.

When Maggie was a very small child she was involved in a serious accident. Her parents were in route, by carriage, to an uncle's home in the country, carrying a bottle of acid, which was to be used in some form of fertilizer, the bottle became broken, the acid spilled on her feet her shoes and
stockings were burned off of her feet by the acid and she received serious burns, the scars of which she carries to this day. The family moved to Georgetown about 1896, she has been a resident of the community ever since.
