| Notes for Shelby Walts |
Born and died in same house south of Georgetown. Took over farm from his dad when he married Birdie. Pa & Ma (Charles & Charity) Walts then moved to Georgetown and ran the general store.
Shelby 'Pop' Walts was a well known and respected farmer. Often metioned on radio by the county agent, Jerry East. Once went to Cincinnati to be on national radio program (5).
Logged with his friend and neighbor, George Baylor. Also with Ed Engleman. Pop smoked cigars and suffered from migrain headaches. A very strong and devoted family man, very proud of his large family. Was devastated when son Earl Richard was killed by car. Could be a bit grouchy in his later years.
He seldom left home, but stories go that he once accompanied the Floyd County Sheriff (Uncle Jake Yenowine) to Chicago to transport a prisoner. Also went to Indianapolis a couple of times (possibly for daughter Alice Faye's wedding?). |
