Dennis Herrick is the 2004 winner of the Tony Hillerman Mystery Short Story Contest. He is a former newspaperman and now teaches journalism at the University of New Mexico. His Hillerman contest story "Hunting Season" can be linked to on the Dying Alone page. He has had short stories published, and Dying Alone is his first mystery novel. He and his wife, Beatrice, live on the west bank of the Rio Grande in Rio Rancho, N.M., between Albuquerque and Santa Fe. The photo?
