A Sustainable Conversation - Teacher's Notes

Use the same method as in The Weed Song to teach the names of various insects. Once the children have learned the names I have them go around interviewing each other. "Yoshi, do you like fireflies?" For "Yes I do," they write the name and a circle, for "No, I don"t," they write Yoshi and a cross. And so on for all the insects.

Teach the children how to draw insects quickly: A butterfly is two capital Bs back to back with two small rs for the feelers. A ladybird is D back to back and c for the head, with os for spots and four ls for legs. A dragonfly is two Ws head to head with an l in between and a smallish B for a face. Have fun!
