Batteries

We are dependant upon electricity unless we forgo nealy all conveniences. Unless you are blessed with an unobstructed dark sky right next to your house, you will either be charging batteries or pulling long cables.

For me, batteries run my mount, focuser, computer and cameras. They also power my dewbuster and my music.

For my scope I have a standard Prestone car starter battery. It has worked very well, although is not meant as a deep cycling battery. For my Starlight Xpress camera I use a Sealed Lead Acid battery (SLA).

What's important in a battery for astronomy?
A battery capable of deep cycling (using most it's power and recharging many times) Make sure your Voltage and AH (AMP hours) are sufficiant for your equipment. An SLA battery works great. Check your local battery first. Batteries are heavy and shipping can be expensive. If you can't get something local, try
Batterymart.
