Bird's Head Bowie

An earlier form of knife that was popular with both sides during the War for Southern Independence was this one. Called a bird's head due to the shape of the pommel which makes the grip more secure, this particular knife has a blade, hand-forged from a salvaged cultivator spring shank, hardened and zone tempered, 16 1/2" long. Overall length, with the brass and ironwood hilt and handle, is just over 21". The form of the blade is that of a medium-clip Bowie with a sharpened false edge that extends back 5" from the point. Included is a sewn and riveted cowhide sheath with lanyard loop.
