Dad Is Doing Great |
 |
 |
Monday, April 25 2005. ---------------------- Dad is coming home today!! Now that he is walking on his own, the doctor feels that he is ready to leave.
Sunday, April 24 2005. ---------------------- Dad is able to sit upgright unassisted, scoot to the edge of his bed and ate breakfast sitting up this morning. He was also able to walk about 30 yards with minimal assistance. This is the first day that he has told us that he is feeling really good. He is definitely more talkative and as we all know...that's the guy we know and love.
We still do not have a firm date as to when he will be released from the hospital, but we are thinking it will be after he is walking on his own, completely unassisted.
Saturday, April 23 2005. *UPDATE* ---------------------- The physical therapist came in today to help Dad walk. They brought in a walker to help him out. He'll be shuffling around the better part of the afternoon today.
Saturday, April 23 2005. ---------------------- Around midnight last night they moved Dad to his recovery room. All but one IV has been removed and he is getting up to sit in a chair more often now (still with assistance). He has started eating solid foods again and his strength is improving. The plan is to have him walking either today or tomorrow.
Dad can now receive visitors, flowers, and phone calls.
He is in room 472A. To reach him, you can call Riverside Community Hospital and ask for his room number. The hospital address and phone number is:
Riverside Community Hospital 4445 Magnolia Avenue Riverside, CA 92501 Telephone: (951) 788-3000
Again, thank you all for the email/ecards. Dad gets every one.
Friday, April 22 2005. ---------------------- Lots of good news today. Dad did not need more blood today and his kidney function is returning to normal. He is being moved from the ICU today to a "stepdown unit". Although the name doesn't seem good...it is. I am not sure if this room will be the recovery area but will keep you all posted. As of 11:00AM this morning I do not have a room number. As always, I will keep you all informed as to his status as news comes in.
Way to go Dad!!!! Stay strong!!!! We Love You!!!!
Thursday, April 21 2005. ----------------------- Regardless of what we have been told, Dad is still not leaving the ICU yet. They are giving Dad some more blood to ensure his red count is higher just as a precaution. He is continuing on the breathing treatment and is getting out of bed several times a day (with assistance).
Mom has mentioned that he is getting a bit feisty so she knows he's getting better.
Thanks to everyone again for the email/ecards. Dad reads every one and puts them up in his area.
Wednesday, April 20 2005. ----------------------- Dad is still in the ICU and will most likely not be moved to his recovery room until tomorrow. He is doing well with his breathing excercises and is getting out of bed and sitting in a chair more frequently now. According to his nurse, he will be up and walking no later than Saturday. At the rate he is going, walking will happen sooner than that. His diet is still mostly liquids but he is giving salad a try tonight.
I printed out all of the email messages that you have sent using the link below and brought them to him along with pictures and cards that the grandkids made for him. Dad sends his thanks and love. It's no contest, his is the most decorated room in the ICU. Unfortunately, flowers and plants are not allowed untill he is moved into recovery.
Once I have his recovery room information, I will post it here.
Tuesday, April 19 2005. ------------------------ Less than 24 hours after surgery and Dad is sitting up in a chair, drinking water and watching CNN. His quick recovery is surprising everyone.
If all continues to go well, he should be out of ICU and into his recovery room sometime tomorrow. Once I have the room information I will post it here.
Monday, April 18 2005. ----------------------- Dad went into surgery at 1:30 PM today for a quadruple bypass. I am happy to announce that the 4 hour procedure went very well and he has started down the road to recovery. Michelle was with him after he woke up from the operation and is pleased to say that he is doing great. He is wiggling his toes and squeezed her hand letting her know he's a.o.k. Unfortunately for Dad, he still has a tube in his mouth that is preventing him from speaking. I'm sure that this experience will generate dozens (if not hundreds) of stories in the future.
He is currently at Riverside Community Hospital and should be there for about 4 to 5 days before coming home.
Thanks to everyone for you kind wishes and prayers. I did relay all of that informati...
