Apokaradokia is Greek for "longing" or "yearning." It has a spiritual connotation, and only occurs twice in the New Testament, where Paul speaks of the longing of all of creation for fulfillment and wholeness. In the work the two clarinets, placed on opposite sides of the stage, weave sinuous lines amidst a cloud of activity in the strings and bass, and only reach a rhythmic unison as they give their final few breaths.
