Establishment of "Women Only" Parking Lot

Effective February 1, 2001

Due to numerous requests by employees, and to several recent cases of robbery and theft, SIU Parking, in consultation with Women's Services, has established a "Women Only" Parking Lot. Even the car park attendants will be female to create a safe and comfortable environment for our female employees. We hope that this effort, the first of its kind in our nation, will spread around the global village.

Woman-Designed Parking Lot

We are moving onward and upward as our vision takes us. Not just a parking lot for women, but a parking lot designed by women. We have greatly benefitted from the SIU international exchange program. The new Woman-Designed Parking Lot was designed by Liese Lotte the Uber Gruppen Fuhretta of the German Women's Working Group for Feminist Ergonomics, with the deliberate intention of breaking free from the stereotype of paternalist hierarchical rigidity. A small step for a woman, a big step for femkind.
