Served in the Wagoner, 165 Depot Brigade. [Obituary] Iowa City Press-Citizen - Monday, 27 May 1940; pg 13 Lee Burns, 51, Dies at Home - Funeral Services Will Be Held at 9 o'Clock Wednesday Lee J. Burnes, 51, died at 10:40 o'clock Sunday evening at his home at 831 Clark street death resulted from a heart attack. Born February 13 1889, in Tama county, Mr. Burns came to Iowa City 13 years ago as an automobile salesman. His marriage to Eva M. Wells took place in 1930. Surviving are his widow; his father, P.J. Burns of Minneapolis, Minn.; three sisters, Mrs. E. E. Bennett of Minneapolis, Mrs. H.S. Batters of Rockford, Ill., and Miss Lillian Burns of Cedar Rapids, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Burns served overseas during the World War and received honorable discharge. He was a member of the American Legion and of St. Patrick's church. Funeral services are planed for 9 o'clock Wednesday morning at St. Patrick's with the Rev. P.J. O'Reilly in charge. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery. The remains are at Beckman's. |
