Japan, July 2001: Kyoto Tour & Banquet
One afternoon we left the meeting for a bus-tour of Kyoto (one of the few Japanese cities that still has old architecture), and the meeting's banquet

First, the gift shop at Ryoanji Temple...
Ryoanji's main feature is the zen rock garden...
Outside there's a tea-room wash basin (17th century)...
The temple's pond is from the late 12th century...
Presumably the turtle is not
Next stop, the photo spot for "the Golden Pavilion"...
That's Kinkaku, or Rokuon-ji Temple
Built around 1400 by a retired shogun...
It was a house, then a temple (yes, it is gold leaf)
Kinkaku's koi (the size of river carp!)
An outdoor shrine at Rokuon-ji
Waterfall at Rokuon-ji
The Kyoto Conference Hall, site of our banquet
Our group, the swans and koi
The ceremonial opening of the sake barrel
Overview of the banquet
Traditional japanese dancers peformed
And so we had to pose :)
