EUGENE, Ore. — Paul E. Hargraves, of Eugene, died Oct. 30 after a brief illness at age 70.

---- He was born Oct. 21, 1937, in Northampton, Mass., to the late George F. Hargraves and Maclyn E. (Huxley) Hargraves.

---- Paul attended Northampton schools and was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He held an associate’s degree in forestry from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture in Amherst and moved to Eugene after graduation.

---- He was a member of the United States Forest Service for many years. He subsequently received two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Oregon and was employed by the Lane County Council of Governments as a computer programmer for many years before he retired. Survivors include two brothers, George of Marshfield, and William of Florence; and a sister, Cynthia Grimaldi of Florence; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
