NORTH GARDEN, Va. -- Dr. Arthur S. Bender, 58, of North Garden, formerly of Northampton, died June 23 (1997) at home.

He was the son of the late Theodore G. and Faye (August) Bender.

He served with the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1968 to 1970.

A practicing physician, he was a founding partner of Internal Medicine Ltd. of Charlottesville, Va.

Dr. Bender was a member and past president of the corporate board, and past chairman of the board of trustees at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottsville.

An annual Continuing Medical Education Day he initiated there, in keeping with his special interest in that area, now will bear his name.

He leaves his wife, Susan G. Bender; a daughter, Penelope A. Bender of Washington, D.C.; a son, Arthur K. Bender of San Francisco, Calif.; two brothers, Fredric Bender of Denver, Colo., and Michael Bender of New YorkCity.
