You may ask yourself, "How is one basement
different from another"? There can be significant structural differences
from one contractor to another. There are also many subtler details
that can really distinguish a Bear Walls basement from your neighbor's
masonry or competitor's basement.
- Rebar
- We place reinforcing steel throughout our foundations. Believe it
or not, this is not always the case with other contractors.
- Patterned corners - Our
competitors often use "smooth" corners made of steel. Our
corners are patterned to match the brickface surface of the wall forms.
No ugly corners with a Bear Walls basement!
- Sill Straps - At no extra
cost, all Bear Walls basements include sill straps. Sometimes known
as "hurricane straps", these galvanized straps are placed
in the top of the wall. When the house is framed, the sill plate is
fastened to the wall with these straps. They provide an extremely
strong mechanical connection to the foundation. This can prevent your
home or structure from blowing off the foundation in extreme weather
conditions.
- Windows - When placing windows
in a structure we utilize "bucks" manufactured by the same
firm that manufactures our forms. These "bucks" are designed
to provide a square, secure, and highly moisture resistant opening
for windows. After the forms are stripped the window can easily and
accurately be placed in the opening. Window wells, if required, are
also installed at this point.
