School Inclusion

I have always gone to "regular" schools. Some of the time, I had special education teachers who have helped me.

When I was 3 years old, I went to the Brentwood Presbyterian Church Preschool. I went there for 3 years. I learned a lot from other girls and boys my age. I learned how to sit on the rug for stories, how to play with toys in the classroom, how to ride a tricycle outside, how to count, and how to say my ABC's. I went in a carpool with my neighbors.

When I was 6 years old, I started Kindergarten at McKinley School in Santa Monica, California. I had lots of friends. My friends helped me, and I helped them sometimes. I remember singing in the 2nd grade chorus. I remember my principal Mr. Wells and his wonderful Christmas plays. I learned how to read, and I learned how to do Fingermath. I learned about science, and I went on a trip to the San Fernando Mission. I graduated from McKinley School at the end of the 5th grade.

When I was 13, I went to Lincoln Middle School. I took music and art and P.E. I got to sing in the chorus. I remember Coooperative Learning in Mrs. Schwabe's English class. While I was at Lincoln, I got diabetes. That was hard, but the nurse helped me when I had to do my blood tests.

When I was 16, I went to Santa Monica High School. I rode the city bus to school. I took chorus, music appreciation, art, crafts, aerobic exercise, physical science, biology, and U.S. history. I had English and math in a special education room. For 2 years, I worked in the child care center where students brought their babies. I loved working there 1 period a day. I wrote stories in my English class, and read them to the babies. I went to the Prom 2 years. On Friday nights in the fall, I went to our football games, but we didn't win very much. We had a great band and cheerleaders. In 1994, I had Graduation and Grad Night. I went with my friends Willy and Ryan.

That summer we moved to Marin County. I went to the College of Marin for 4 years. I took College Chorus, Music History, Music Fundatmentals, Design, Ceramics, Dancercise, Modern Dance, Drama Survey, Cast of "Wishes, Lies, and Dreams," Keyboarding, Introduction to the Macintosh, Using the Web for Business and Personal Use, Aerobic Fitness, and Swimming. My special education teacher helped me, and so did my helpers from the Disabled Students Program. I graduated in 1998, but I still take some classes. I take the Golden Gate Transit bus to the College of Marin.
