Low Vision

I have low vision. I am "legally blind," which means that I can't see things that are very far away. If I hold a piece of paper with words on it very close to my eyes, I can read the words, even if they are very small. I can read the fortunes in fortune cookies!

I wear glasses. I can't see without my glasses. I have had glasses almost all my life. They really help me.

Kate taught me how to read street signs. I have a monocular, which is like a telescope for me. I look into it with one eye and I can read street signs.

Big print really helps me. 24-point print is great. I really like big print on the computer.

This is something strange. Even though I have low vision, I learn best by looking at something. I learn better by seeing something than by hearing it.

I went with my friends who have low vision or no vision on a great trip. We went kayaking from Sausalito to Angel Island with a group called Environmental Traveling Companions or ETC. It was so much fun!
