During the late 1980s, No Way Publications published four issues of the wonderful mini-comix MONDO HOWIE. This wacky series provided an opportunity for a variety of artists to offer their interpretations of the wonderful WAYNO character, Howie the Hat. Within the pages of MONDO HOWIE you will find contributions by some very impressive artists, including PETER BAGGE, MARY FLEENER, JEFF GAITHER, MARK MAREK, DENNIS WORDEN, BOB X, and (of course) the amazing WAYNO. For anyone interested in the 1980s underground publishing scene, these books are essential.

This first issue of MONDO HOWIE featured an all-star roster of artists including MICHAEL RODEN:

cover     WAYNE HONATH (untitled drawing)

page 2     BOB X (Howie the Hat)

page 3     HAL HARGIT (Howie the Hat takes those little yellow signs seriously.)

page 4     MICHAEL RODEN (My God, look what has happened to me!)

page 5     BRAD W. FOSTER (untitled drawing)

page 6     D. TOSH (Howie the Swinging Playboy)

page 8     ANDY NUKES (Howie imagines he is President Reagan.)

On page 4 we find Howie as a wigged-out Crazy Man Frankenstein-Howie complete with MICHAEL RODEN trademark lightbulb eyes. Very cool.

Resource Note:
Thanks to WAYNO for information and copies of this cool mini-comix. WAYNO rocks.
