The CRAZY MEN minicomix series marches on and this time it's in Full Color!
cover JIM THOMPSON untitled drawing
This colorful and dynamic drawing has a wonderful tension built into it that is highlighted by the stylistic influences that differentiate the two characters. That tension is then furthered by the imaginative use of color. (Except for the centerspread, all the color work in this issue is by MICHAEL RODEN.) The lemon-lime colored Monster is cool.
page 2 MIKE MITCHELL and M. RODEN Poor Herbert Fine (All Color!)
This fun drawing underscores the fact that this mini-comix is, well, All Color! MIKE MITCHELL provided the character (which he named) and then MIKE RODEN colored it and added the simple but beautifully effective background. This is a nice page!
page 3 MICHAEL RODEN Plectognath Plebiscite
This amazing color drawing was created in 1975 and appears in print here for the first time. This wonderfully imaginative character first appeared in ORCALE COMIX No. 2 in the story Der Flammende Stein where he (it?) metamorphosed into Swanis Auroris.
"Plectognath Plebiscite" is a shape changer. In a way he's like one of the first crazy men. He rolls along in this glass ball. Then sends out tendrils which fill up from inside of the ball to make up whatever he needs to become. MR: email to DLC dated Jul 2, 2006
pp 4-5 TOM BRINKMANN untitled psychedelic drawing
The centerspread this issue is a psychedelic feast for the eyes created by long-time TBHC contributor TOM BRINKMANN. The parrots and skulls give it a sort of fun pirate look. This page would make a great poster!
page 6 ANDY NUKES and M. RODEN The Alien & the Geometric Amoeba
In this cool drawing, we find an ANDY NUKES space alien from 1995 set against an amazing MICHAEL RODEN psychedelic outer space-scape drawn in back in 1975. (The background drawing was originally titled The Geometric Amoeba Changes Planes. I love that title!) The TBHC faithful will recognize the ANDY NUKES alien from HO-DADDY'S BIG ADVENTURE. Oh, and there is a different 1975 drawing entitled The Geometric Amoeba in the legendary ARTWORK SHOWCASE Number 1 from 1980.

bc JEFF GAITHER and M. RODEN Ghoul Man in a Graveyard
This cool drawing
is just one more reason to dig the ever-wonderful JEFF GAITHER-MICHAEL RODEN
team. These two great artists have been working together since the 1980s and
every page they do is a treat to the eye. Note that this drawing originally
appeared (in black-and-white) in UNCONTROLLED
COPY twenty years before its first color appearance here. I still
love that freaky ghost in the background!
