cover     untitled illustration (Ancient Dreams Comix)

Collage with hand-drawn background. A mysterious otherworldly serpent writhes in an alien landscape. Interesting use of color.

pages 3-7     Elder Tales with Eye-Witness/The Cave of Absu

Five-page (two-part) cosmic fantasy story depictiong the Birth of The Cosmos. Imaginative art and wonderful script ("Along with the creation of Matter comes the Beginning of Time ... For without Matter to conceive it, Time has no meaning."). Cool.

pages 9-11     Dreams

Interesting wordless narrative with a mystical theme. Picasso's Ghost puts in a cameo appearance.

page 13     Oceanus

Five-panel wordless sequence featuring marine creatures. I have no idea what it means but it is pretty cool.

page 14    The Final Ride

Wordless horror story featuring an interesting blob creature reminiscent of The Jelly from the Frank Zappa LP Uncle Meat. One of the few "standard" horror stories that MR ever did.

pages 15-16     Penny Arcade/Laff in the Dark

Two-page wordless (MOL) horror narrative. The Penny Arcade theme was later developed into a special issue of NEMESIS Number 7 (PENNY ARCADE COMIX).

Other contributors to this interesting Thru Black Holes title are:

page 2     S. FOX

page 8     FRODO (Larry's Mind — A Tribute to the Old Days)

This amazing full-page drawing was reprinted (with slight alterations) from THRU BLACK HOLES 2 (page 10).

page 12     E. H. DORN (The Revenge of Cthulhu)

pages 17-20     ROBERT POWERS (Tales of Mu)

page 21     RAOUL NEWK

pages 22-24     DON MARSH (Oh No It's Marty)

Of particular note is the fine Lovecraft-inspired page by E. H. DORN in which four panels (reprinted from various Thru Black Holes publications) are assembled to form a loosely-woven wordless narrative. These monsters are truly monstrous. The dedicated may also want to note that MR did the color separations for the DON MARSH back cover
