Turnout Construction
Construction of turnout parts continues using
Fast Track's tools.
I spent an hour in my workshop tonight working on
a group of 4 #8 turnouts. The previous night I cut pieces of rail to length for
the points, stock rails, frogs, and guard rails. I am using Fast Track's
(http://www.handlaidtrack.com) PointForm tool for filing the correct angles for
the points and frogs. Next I need to sand away the base of the rail where the
points mate up to the stock rails using a benchtop sander. My plan is to
complete making enough parts for 4 turnouts, then solder them all together using
the Fast Track's jig. I think I can get this done by the end of the month. This
will give me enough "turnout skeleton's" (i.e. without the wood ties) for the
lower level mainline past Cassen's Transport. I also wanted to construct a group
of 5 #8 turnouts which would give me all I need for that autorack yard. I
thinking I won't get that done by the end of the month, but maybe in a couple of
weeks.
