Thursday Night Accomplishments

A review of what the group accomplished this past Thursday night at my house.

Last Thursday night was train night at my house again. I had the crew working in three areas. First I wanted the homasote in the yard painted. Then I wanted the risers and subroadbed started in the hidden loop area as well as the branch from SE junction across the Meramec River.

The yard was painted a sandy brown. I wasn't too concerned about the exact color here because the whole yard will end up being ballasted.

Next the risers and subroadbed was installed over the area near the river. The guys imparted their experience and wisdom to me. I originally had planned to simply lay the cork roadbed on top of the plywood. They convinced me that adding a layer of homasote on top of the plywood first would greatly diminish any chance of sound reverberation. It made sense to me so I authorized the design change.

Finally we worked on installing risers for the hidden loop. The section that required a level plane was installed first. Then we joined the subroadbed pieces together to make them all one. The idea behind that is to anchor the two ends, with the grade in the middle. This will allow the subroadbed to form a natural easement into and out of the grade.
