  • Caption: The Durango depot, built in 1881 and in continuous since. When the Denver & Rio Grande arrived here, there was already a village called Animas City. But a dispute over land prices led the railroad to establish its own town next door. The name Durango was taken from the Mexican town of the same name. Animas City was later annexed into Durango.
