Annie. Narrator (young housewife) in The Widow's Walk, who wants to kill her Mother-in-law. Annie is also the name of the brillliant armchair dectective in It Wouldn't Be Fair.

Ann Knowles. Wife of Charley in You Haven't Changed a Bit, who once dated Alec House, to whose wedding Ann and Charley are invited.

Charley. Detective in It Wouldn't Be Fair, who wants to redeem himslef in his mystery-book reader girlfriend's eye, Annie.

Charley Knowles. Husband of Ann in You Haven't Changed a Bit, who once dated Grace Morrison, to whose wedding Charley and Ann are invited.

David Redstone. Man in “Someone Who Knows Told Me …” who watched twenty rail cars filled with paratroopers pass his car as it was stopped at a train crossing in Des Moines. He told his co-workers about it, and they told their friends.

Eve Ryan (née Curry). Wife of the ever mischievious Timberlake (Tim) in a series of stories Finney wrote for Collier's: Breakfast in Bed.

Frank Berry. Man in “Someone Who Knows Told Me …” who bragged about finishing a rush order job for night binoculars in Phoeniz, AZ. Frank Berry is the name of Jack Finney's stepfather. Finney dedicated his 1955 book, The Body Snatchers, for my mother and dad, Mr. and Mrs. Frank D. Berry.

Lieutenant. Detective Charley's boss in It Wouldn't Be Fair, who ends up bringing Charley's girlfriend Annie in on a myrder mystery.

Mrs. Richard Brown. Woman in “Someone Who Knows Told Me …” who stood on the deck of a ferry approaching New York, watching PT boats being loaded into a cargo ship. She told her sister what she saw, who told her husband, who told his friends, and so on.

Timberlake (Tim) Ryan. The ever mischievious husband of Eve in a series of stories Finney wrote for Collier's: Breakfast in Bed.
