SUSearch
NEW!! Version 3.1
(August 2006)
Worksheets to Make Comparing and Selecting SU Carburetor
Needles Easier
(0.090",
0.100" & 0.125" needle sets now
included)
written for Microsoft Excel(tm) 97/98 or higher
SUSearch is an Excel worksheet that can be used by anyone
who is trying to fine tune a car's performance by helping
to select the best SU needle for the SU carburetor(s).
There are over 350 0.090" needles, over 250 0.100" and over
60 0.125" needles to choose from depending on the carb and
jet size! Using the right needle to get the best carburetor
mixture per engine condition and load can significantly
affect the power output and economy of a SU-equipped
engine.

This
worksheet is not a database of all cars equipped with SU
carburetors and their associated needles. It will not tell
you what needles you may currently have in your
carburetors. If enough of you think it would be a useful
add-on to SUSearch, I may put that on the list of
improvements for the future, but you will have to convince
me that it is worth the considerable effort! I also do not
know where you can purchase all these different SU needles.
Some of you have asked for sources of these needles. I will
add vendors to this website as people recommend them to me.

This workbook is offered into the public domain, I still
retain all copyright to it. You may distribute SUSearch
freely, but keep checking back to see if a new version has
been released.
The Download section of the website has compressed files
containing the worksheet in either PC/Windows or Macintosh.
Both files are either zip format (PCSUSearch.zip) or
stuffit format (MacSUSearch.sit). If you have trouble
downloading, send me an email, and I will email one to you
directly. Do not try to load the downloaded archive file
directly into Excel, or you may find the results
entertaining or, at least, puzzling. Double-click on the
archive file to run it and follow the instructions to
create the SUSearch worksheet.

(You
may get a macro warning dialog box when opening the
worksheet. The worksheet does have one VBA macro and should
be virus free from this location. Click the Enable Macro
button if you get the macro warning dialog box to continue
opening the worksheet. If you have any concerns, disable
macros and look in the VBA editor. Only one VBA macro
routine should be present. It sorts the database for needle
search results.)
