1944-1952: SVEINN BJÖRNSSON
Born in 1881 in Copenhagen to Björn Jónsson and Elísabet Sveinsdóttir.
Elected President in 1944, reelected in 1945 and in 1949.
Died in 1952 in Reykjavik.
Buried in Bessastadir Cemetery in Álftanes.
1952-1968: ÁSGEIR ÁSGEIRSSON
Born in 1894 in Kóranesi á Myrum.
Elected President in 1952, reelected in 1956, 1960 and in 1964.
Died in 1972 in Reykjavik.
1968-1980: KRISTJÁN ELDJÁRN
Born in 1916 in Tjörn í Svarfadardal
Elected President in 1968, reelected in 1972 and in 1976.
Died in 1982 in Reykjavik.
Buried in Fossvogur Cemetery in Reykjavik.
1980-1996: VIGDÍS FINNBOGADÓTTIR
Born in 1930 in Reykjavik.
Elected President in 1980, reelected in 1984, 1988 and in 1992.
SINCE 1996: ÓLAFUR RAGNAR GRIMSSON
Born in 1943 in Ísafjördur to Grímur Kristgeirsson and Svanhildur Ólafsdóttir Hjartar.
Elected President in 1996, reelected in 2000, 2004 and in 2008.
